FAQ
What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
SIL is an NDIS-funded support that helps people with disabilities live independently while receiving assistance with daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and personal care. It is designed for individuals who require 24/7 support or regular assistance in a shared or individual living arrangement.
Who is eligible for SIL funding under the NDIS?
To be eligible for SIL, participants must have SIL included in their NDIS plan. The NDIS assesses eligibility based on the person’s level of support needs, their goals, and whether SIL is considered a reasonable and necessary support for them.
Does SIL funding cover rent and utility costs?
No, SIL funding only covers the cost of support workers and daily living assistance. It does not include rent, utilities, food, or personal expenses, which are typically paid for using the participant’s Disability Support Pension (DSP) or other income sources.
Will I have to share my living space with housemates?
No, our Supported Independent Living (SIL) accommodations are private, meaning each resident has their own space. Whether you choose our studio or granny flat, you won’t have to share with housemates, ensuring privacy and a personalised living experience.
What is the difference between SIL and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)?
SIL covers the support services a person receives in their home, while SDA is funding for specially designed housing for people with high physical support needs. Some people may receive both SDA and SIL funding, but they are separate NDIS supports.
